The Sea Serpent in Long Island Sound.

A gentleman of this city who has been stopping

at the Savin Rock House, West Haven, For

a week or two, informs us that what was

considered a veritable sea serpent was seen from

the shore last Thursday. A number of the guests

were watching the gambols of a school of

porpoises about a mile form shore, when what

appeared to be a serpent about forty feet long, and

of a brownish color, was seen in the midst of

the school and caused a great commotion among

the fish. It appeared as though a contest took

place between one of the porpoises and the

serpent. The reptile was seen for about half an
hour by a quite a concourse of spectators.--
