SAW A SEA SERPENT.

A Fishing Boat's Crew Have a

Remarkable Experience,

A London special says: A sea serpent has

put in an appearance a few miles off the coast

of Aberdeenshire. The crew of the fishing

boat Harbinger assert that while lying at

anchor yesterday an extraordinary looking

monster with a neck like a giraffe, a long

black mane of a fibrous nature, somewhat resembled

a split whalebone, and a skin spotted

like a fancy oilcloth, suddenly hove its awful

bulk out of the water quite close to the boat

and placing one of its gigantic paws or flippers

upon the prow and the other near the stern,

lifted its head high in the air, and glared down

upon the terrified crew.

The head somewhat resembled that of an

alligator, but was remarkable for its extremely

small size , and was apparently without

teeth. The body was shaped somewhat like a

turtle and terminated in a long, powerful tail,

edged with great spines.

The monster seemed to be harmless, but its

weight caused the boat to careen more than

three feet. The crew were paralyzed with

terror and dropped into the hold, all but one,

more courageous than the rest, who climbed

up the mast.

After satisfying his curiosity the enormous

creature returned to his native element, having

paid a visit to the upper air of about a

quarter of an hour, thus giving the man on

the mast ample time and opportunity to inspect

him.
